I AM ABSOLUTELY LIVID ABOUT THESE DEATHS AND... NOW 2 POLICE DOGS - see:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/nottinghamshire/8129826.stm

In the case of the police dogs, these are the tools of the dog handlers keeping them in their jobs and as I have always understood it are "almost part of those officers' lives". How could they NOT be aware that closed vehicles and hot weather are an absolute recipe for disaster? It MUST be part of their basic training. Surely a policeman, bound to uphold the law, has broken it and contravened the Animal Welfare Act? RSPCA?

If nothing else, this dog handler must surely never be that again? Six dogs dead in this British heat wave through lack of human concern and a little thought, is six too many. Let's hope there are no more!

What do other dogsnosers think???

Like you Ticket, I am really upset about these deaths. I know people are often pretty stupid over cars and great weather BUT I had hoped that any dog owner would always ensure the safety of what should be part of their family.

I suppose every summer, there are those out there who simply don't care enough and such incidents will happen again - God forbid! As for the dog handler, there's no excuse - he had two dogs in his vehicle and both died - he should be prosecuted in my view.

Thank God common sense prevails! I see on the news today that the police dog handler in question IS to be prosecuted over the unnecessary deaths of his two dogs.
